to b honest, ive heard males r friendlier, but in the 6 yrs i have had hammies as pets i have never noticed a difference, rather they r more like humans, it depends on the individual personality. once u have the right housing equipment ready, go pick out your hamster. a few tips on choosing the best one. put your hand in the cage easy and just let it dangle for a few seconds in the center, a normal healthy hamster may get nervous but also will be curious and come foward to check you out, try picking that one up gently and it shouldnt struggle too much. check for signs of leakage, eyes ,anus, nose etc..that is NOT a good sign and most likely the entire batch unfortunately are probably a bad choice, but if you find no problems in those areas no hyper aggressive behavior, u probably have a winner. Keep in mind hamsters are solitary animals so where you may think they can get lonely and feel bad, your probably better off leaving it be, allowing him/her to be the king of the castle. less stress on the animal. putting a f+m together will assure a litter of babies and if you are inexperienced, it can get ugly. Females will attack the male after birth, so u would need to seperate them, then u will need to separate the babies from the mother eventually, they are known to gang up on the weakest and it is unbearable to witness, so i would stick w/ 1 and you will both b very happy. good luck, they are great pets but even little guys require a lot of care and love! be prepared.

a woman hamster would be in warmth each 4 days (no longer each 2 months as Alexis above me thinks) and could provide off a comfortable musty style of smell, yet different than for that she would be odour unfastened. A male hamster, of direction, does not circulate into warmth so he would be odour unfastened a hundred% of the time. the only different smells are, such as you assert, to do with the cage needing to be wiped clean out. For the checklist, i'm at the instant on my fourth woman hamster and the smell has not at all ever afflicted me in the slightest, i do no longer additionally be conscious it different than while the hamster is unquestionably precise in front of my nostril, like while i'm coping together with her or despite.

It doesn't really matter. They'll probably bite you either ways if you've never had one before. It's gonna happen. My male dwarf hamster may have been particularly ornery but he got nicer eventually. I took care of a female one (dwarf) for two weeks (class-pet during winter vacation), and she seemed to come around a lot sooner than he had.

don't be sexist. In the spirit of equality I would just like to remind you that no one gender is above another and no gender should be treated differently to another. Unless they poo everywhere.
In another words: they are the same
P.S. female. not feemale.
Enjoy the eternal bond of hamsterhood
