I have a manual transmission 98 Chevrolet cavalier. Recently I've had alot of problems with my car being sluggish (jerks, attempts to stall, usually I have to gun the gas to keep it going) when shifting gears. I've taken it to the repair shop twice now for the problem but it's still unresolved. On the first vist they performed a tune-up. Then the next visit visit they replaced an ignition cylinder. I'm just not sure I can afford to keep taking it back to the shop for repairs that don't actually fix the problem? Any suggestions on what might be the cause of the problem?

Fuel filter, PVC valve, Could be as simple as adjusting the clutch. Does this happen more when your low on gas? If so there could be built up condensation (water) in the bottom of your tank. It could also be bad gas.

Sounds to me like the clutch isn't working properly take it in and ask them to check it. Being a fluid-linkage system they should be able to bleed it and see if the problem is still present.
