there is no exact distance to the moon. the moon is on an elliptical orbit around the earth, and along with other gravitational influences, its distance from the earth is constantly changing. that's the scientific answer.

Oh do people leave themselves open to one liners. Good thing that this is a clean site LOL. A quarter of a million miles is the rough guess used to descibe the distance. It does vary through out the month. The extra three inches? Well if a man goes potty behind a tree, that three inches varies and either adds to the distance or shortens it.

The average distance from the Moon to the Earth is 384,403 kilometers (238,857 miles). The Moon's diameter is 3,476 kilometres (2,160 mi). Reflected sunlight from the Moon's surface reaches Earth in 1.3 seconds (at the speed of light).

Because the Moon's orbit is slightly elliptical, it varies between a minimum of 363,300 km and a maximum of 405,500 km (or between 225,858 and 252,094 miles).
