I'm 21 and one of my girlfriends is 30. She likes my male friend who is also 21 and whenever we all hang out, I always have the feeling she has to upstage me in some way even though I don't even like the guy. She always tells me how old she feels. Is she threatened by me because I am closer to the man's age?

I'll be 30 this year and there is no way I'd be with a 21 year old. My man is 27 and I have never felt threatened in any way. He loves me and he likes that I am older than him. I would ask her straight out if she feels threatened by you, and also point out that you are not interested in her guy at all. She sounds insecure. If she isn't comfortable with him, then she shouldn't be with him. Maybe she should get a guy her age or closer to it. 21 is too young and at that age you wanna live it up. When you are 30, it is a different ball game. When you are 30, you wanna settle down, when you are 21, you wanna party for a while. So they are most likely in different paths and so that makes her worry. Just talk to her about all of this. Good luck!

Threatened by what exactly? I am confident, educated , and successful. My boyfriend of 5 years is 7 years younger than me and I have never felt threatened by a younger woman when we are out. It's the person, not the age.

When I was younger, I only dated guys my age. I said I would
never date an older man. Now that I am older, I won't date guys
that are younger than me. I am more attracted to men my age.
I guess it is an individual choice, and people are going to always
judge others no matter what. But, I feel like, I've already been
there...why would I want to go backwards? I think it is true that
when older women want to always date younger guys, it makes
them feel they aren't getting old. It proves to them, that they CAN
still attract a stud. So they a have real need to feel ATTRACTIVE
still.....It is INSECURITY. But as for women like me who are
somewhat more older, ( wiser, mature) we don't need to feel
reassured like that. Because we are secure with ourselves. And
I am not jealous of anybody, because I don't have to be. I was
young once too, I did everything....so no, I am happy with myself
and who I have become, as a woman.

I always used to think that it was silly when older women acted liked they were threatened by young women such as myself, however as I get older, I have noticed that I often become annoyed, yet not threatened, by younger women (especially teenagers in their late teens) and how many of them act.

in this case I'd say your friend is some what insecure. as for myself, no i do not feel threatened by younger women. it is what is, we are who we are. age is a number, wisdom and confidence are key.
