my x wife left the country to avoid paying court ordered child support for our 5 kids that live with me in iowa.

Contact the US Embassy or consulate there,they may be able to atleast try.Don't expect much of course.

Sorry 'bout that, but Your kids are better off with you anyway ! so get a second job, sell ebay or craigslist stuff, etc etc, and stop worring about a dumbas$ person that would leave the country and not see there kids, and not help support them, I know that sucks for you financially, I know from experience, But You will survive and your kids are better off with out that person whom left them, trust me.
