When you say he is a six-foot tall baseball player, the "six foot tall" and "baseball" are both adjectives describing the word player. The real operative here is the word "a".

When you say he is six feet tall, the word "a" is not in the sentence. This seemingly insignificant word (a) makes a big change is how you use foot and feet. Also, you are not describing what he DOES, but how high he stands.

Both are correct, but it depends on how you use the sentences whether you would say six-foot tall or six feet.

If you were saying an even number, you would say feet, if you are adding inches, you say foot. (he is six feet tall or he is 6 foot, four) Now, don't ask me why that is correct - I just know that it is. English is just a weird language and it doesn't always make sense!

It's only feet if it's TWO feet or more. 23 inches would be 1 foot 11 inches. 25 inches would be 2 feet 1 inch.
