what fluid is it leaking? you should fix the leak. as for the smoking...if the smoke is blue i wouldnt mess with it...if it only smokes blue at start up then stops it's valve seals. if it always smokes blue it's piston rings. both are big projects especially in a van. if it's blowing white smoke, may have a blown head gasket. black smoke, carb problems with running rich.

I have to agree with John Oates. If money allows, have a mechanic look at the van to determine the cost of repairs, in which could be cashy. Then weigh the pros and cons of keeping the van. If in the long run it will be more cost effective for you to keep the van, fix it. If not, trade it in.

Yes, buy new hoses and replace them, the output hose is the only high pressure hose, the intake hose is just on with a hose clamp.
