Well, I'm living in an apartment for the summer, a dorm during the school year, and a house whenever I'm not at school or traveling. A very much like living in my house at home (that's the only one of the three that really counts as home), but that's only because my parents are there to do all the work. The rest of the time I prefer an apartment because there's someone to come fix the toilet or change the light bulb or whatever else, and I'm not responsible for most of the maintenance or anything.

Although, the apartment I'm living in now is owned by a college and rented out to students over the summer, and today I came home to a note on the door warning us that they're going to be inspecting our rooms soon and, among other things, we'll get in trouble if there's trash around the apartment or the floor isn't cleaned. Last I checked I was old enough to decide for myself how to keep my room just so long as I didn't damage anything that belongs to the building, so I rather resented that. They also have all sorts of rules about how many guests we can have in our room at a time, and even how many bottles of wine or beer we're allowed to have if we're over 21 (and they've banned hard liquor entirely). So I think I'd put my vote in for an apartment with the added condition that it's NOT student housing. Although, at my school we're allowed to do pretty much whatever we want to our rooms except mess with the fire sprinklers, put holes in the walls, or grow drugs in our closet and leave them there when maintenance comes once a year to inspect the fire sprinklers, so maybe just not student housing that's owned by a conservative Catholic school...

I would trade doing the mainenance for a place of my own. I would love a house, the quieter the location the better. Right now I live in a tiny apartment with my husband, two cats, and a baby on the way, right up the street from a hospital (noisy) on the 3rd floor. I know some apartments come with laundry inside the unit, but in 15 years of moving around, I've never lived in one. Most days there's not a lot I wouldn't give to have my own house.

We live in a house but at one time we where living in an apartment. I like my house much better than the apartment. Yes, we have grass to cut but we also can a people over & sit on the patio, have a BBQ, the kids can run & play in the yard, or swim in the pool ~ basically anything we want to do we can & we don't have to worry about making noise or disturbing the neighbors in the next apartment because there aren't any ~ there are alot of pro's to having a yard & I don't mind paying the small price of having to mow it 2x's week. In my opinion it well worth it :-)

I had a house but lost due to some circumstances I wont go into here, and now live in an apartment. The main difference for me was in any repairs. In a house, if anything needed fixing, you had to do it yourself, or pay someone to fix - and bore the brunt of any costs. In an apartment, you have to wait for the manager to send someone and hope they fix it correctly without making a mess, but at least it's free. No maintence in an apartment is great, but you also have to put up with other residents, although, the bad ones usually don't stay long. In a house, you have neighbors that probably are not going to move, and are permanent, and if you have any issues with them - what to do, who to go to?

I prefer living in an apartment just for the reasons you stated... Right now we live in a house, with 31/2 acres of land that needs cutting.. Spent 22+ in the service so I know all about apartments..( LOVE THEM,I'm lazy...

I would rather live in a house. In an apartment-from my own personal experience- you cant be outside past a certain hour. You can hear your neighbors television or radio. If your downstairs you can hear them walking across their apartment or running down the stairs. In a house you cant hear all of that stuff. You can pretty much do what you want-I guess as long as you own the house.

I used to think that way. Now I would not move back into an apartment for anything. You always have to worry about your sensative neighbors, getting a parking spot, public pool, besides not much room. I have found that I really enjoy having a yard of my own & decorating it with flowers etc. Trying to make it the best looking house on the block.

well, since u, already are living in an apartment, so u know how it is living in an apartment. On the other hand living in a house of your own has its own advantages. I myself live in a house. First of all, u can design your house according to ur style and liking, not like an apartment where the builder has given u a set format to live in. Secondly, u have a lawn of ur own...believ me there is nothing like having the morning tea, playing with kids.....in ur own lawn. Yeah, maintaining can be a problem...but u can always have someone to maintain ur lawn. On top of all its ur land u are sitting on all the time, not on stilts.

i do live in an apartment and i'm lovin' it soooo much / coz u know livin in a house makes u sort of isolated and lonely .but livin in an apartment gives u this feeling of neighborhood , that u r not alone and whenever u r having any trouble u can just go to ur next door neighbor and ask for his help , in other words , u have company ... i 'd never choose to live in a house even if i had the opportunity ..
