Try soaking it in Coca-Cola for an hour or so, and then scrubbing it with a cloth. There's something about the acidic content of cola that makes it a great chrome cleaner, so it's worth a try.

The rusting is probably caused by your sweat; more correctly, the salt in your sweat. Salt is an oxidizer. Rust is iron-oxide.

There is a chemical you can buy in the larger home improvement stores. Its called Os-Pho. It chemically changes iron oxide to iron phosphate. The rust disappear, the metal has a slight white dusty material on it that can be washed off - and presto! - bare metal that can be polished to a shine.

Go to the store and get some polish.

Follow the directions on the container.

If you are not sure what to get, go to a hardware store and ask the staff for advice.
