answering your question.. hip hop is not part of islamic culture at all. if you're talking about culture, there's huge gap btween music and islam itself.
However, answering your second part, we know that youth nowadays can't be seperated from music. Especially the hip hop and Rnb, so using them as a meduim to spread the islamic msg is not wrong.
but you need to cautious so that you will not break any rules and follow the basic guidelines.
there's a few examples that ppl in the entertaiment industry, do use their speciality and talent to send a msg across. it is easier to reach the youth than going againts them. but as i said earlier, better be caution. Dont endup up "destryoing" them and yourself as what happened in singapore yrs ago about the "ustz biker".
Use your gift wisely. don't abuse them.

He does not know what the hell he is talking about. A lot of Black muslim enter Islam from the influence of hiphop. A lot of rappers are muslim or are themselves influenced by Islam but this was chiefly during the 1990's. By listening to the music, millions of Black kids have learned about, love and have become muslim. People are moving away from draconian movements though, and thank goodness. If you ask me, do away with all of it and live life the way you want to.

There are a few muslim rappers. One of them being my favorite Rakim. He converted to islam while in his hip hop career and spoke of some of the ideas of Islam, but not focused on them too much, because he wanted everyday people to relate to his words, not just muslims. I think what you're doing it fine, but keep in mind in your lyrics, try not to focus on just the islamic people, but all people.

DC Talk used to do great Christian hiphop as does Toby Mac (DC Talk) and others. I'm a Christian.
As for you, are you mainstream or underground? That (Moslem culture) is a very restrictive environment for this kind of lyricism and music. Its like Pat Boone doing heavy metal cover songs (which has been done)..
