in as much as i have uyankee relatives who ar emuch mor eredencked than me it doesn't bother me.
we find it amazing that so many people don't know where the name redneck comes from they just follow the dumb media hype and we make money from it.
up to about 150 years a go everyone wore long sleeve shirts with the necks buttoned up for protection from the sun, and because like our northern cousins they did not have but one or two set sof clothern and the choice was longsleve and buttoned for the cold winters. so one suit for all weathers. when people began to move into georgia and florida(alabama was not a state or florida) they began to losten their shirts collars due to the humidity and heat resulting in sunburned necks or rednecks. this is th esource of redecks and has nothing to do with what garbage the news feeds you. georgia and florida craxckers cam eint use when drivers of teams of mules, or cattle used to use a long whip to control the animals which pulle dtheir wagons. thus georgioa or florida crackers. (working people) not igorant lazy bums. you've been had by a bunch of city bunkins if u beleive different

I am a northern..from Michigan. I really don't know a lot about the south but what I know is mixed. In general, I find the southern people wonderful: so friendly and eager to cooperate with others, also very communicative in general. However, I have heard that their friendliness is often a facade. I imagine, however, that many of genuinely friendly so that is the way I choose to view them. For the negative side, there is that thing called racism...and from what I here it is alive and well..though of course it certainly exists in the North as well. Also conservative values and lots of right wing Christians abound in the South. I think however, people are people everywhere and good and bad people are everywhere.
I usually try to look beyond the facade to see people. But mostly when I meet with Southern people, I feel relaxed and lovely.

well. i am from the south originally , and i have been raised in the north. i know that my immediate family that is still in the south are fed up w/ the portrayal of ignorance that is associated w/ the southern accent. i have often wondered this myself. i know that when i get mad or tired my southern accent comes back automatically and then ppl. look at me like i am stupid or laugh at the southern draw. i think that most of the time , ppl. are just really stunned at how beautiful the "southern draw" really is. i think that is also just really entertaining to ppl. that have , per say a new england accent. ppl. think that a little bit of a southern accent w/ a lady gives off the portrayal of a true southern bell. that is what i love about the accent, and this is what i dislike about the southern accent.

Nah - we have enough self-confidence & self-esteem that we don't care. We know that deep down inside that everybody secretly wants to be just like us -- that's why ya'll keep moving down here!
