On the outside wash it with a little dish soap or leather soap with water, rinse well, and use a lemon scented oil and rub in it well. On the inside -put a huge wad of fresh newspapers in and close it for a couple of days. It will be fresh!

Try using a Downy Dryer Sheet in there. That should absorb the odor of incense and leave your briefcase smelling fresh and new again.

This tip is also helpful for taking out the musty smells of a closet or dresser drawers too!

Maybe charcoal pads, like the kinds you put inside kitty litter boxes to absorb the smell.
Or how about whole coffee beans? I always see a bowl of them in oil shops. Don't know if thats to keep the air clean or just for sniffing though.

its going to sound fully put a few boxes on open baking soda in the case -- that will absorb much of the nasty smells
