I'd answer this question, but too many people have already hit the nail right on the head... It's plainly a need for reassurance, not so much insecurities, although it does play a role. I think we all need reassurance from time to time that we still "have it" -whether it's looks, wit, charm, or intelligence..

Dismissive or perfectionistic parents, people sometimes latently seek the acceptance of their parents and this sometimes becomes exaggerated outside of the original context.

I don't know but that character flaw is one of my biggest pet peeves. I dnt know if its lack of self confidence or the fact no one recognized them and gave them merit as children. But it makes you wonder if they ever do anything without first wondering what glory they will gain from it. Makes them pretty shallow and all for show in my opinion.

easy... insecurity. there are many people that just aren't comfortable in their own skin and seek other peoples' approval for a temporary raise in self-esteem.

Most times, peoples emotional age and chronological age do not match.

It makes them feel good to know that they are being noticed. whether or not that attention is honestly being given or just tp make them shut up isn't important to them.

jealousy or that they arent getting it from where from where they should be getting it from, they may feel insecure and need the security from others to feel accepted :)
