Try the GI diet (Glycemic Index), this solution allows you to eat a wider range of foods and by following it you should lose weight sensibly. Combining this with exercise that gets your pulse elevated but still allows you to talk reasonably comfortably while you do the exercises, will get you where you want to go and do it healthily.
Check out the book at the library, The GI Diet Revolution, written by Dr. Jennie Brand-Miller, Kay Foster-Powel or purchase it at any bookstore. You can also get a pocketbook that gives the GI number for a large range of foods.
The restrictions on this diet are far less than many diets and with just a few weeks on this diet you should be feeling a lot more energetic, less fatigued etc.
