It's surprising for one so young (16 y/o) to have a clear goal as early as now when all other girls your age just want to have fun..fun.. fun. Well, I think you are on the right path young lady.

You mentioned about taking business courses and yes, that's the first step in learning the "theoretical aspects" of the business. Accounting is good but it dealt more on the recording aspects, financial statements preparations, etc. If you want to get a tighter grip, you may need to study the entire business cycle (Production/Operations Mgt., Marketing, HBO, Financial Mgt., etc.), then I suggest you pursue MBA. Afterwards, you need to have exposure on how businesses are "actually" being run.. it would be best for you to gain first working experiences. If you already have in mind what kind of business you would want to put up, try getting some exposure first on the nature of the business and learn the "entire industry" before taking the plunge. Even if you have the required capital to invest and engage in a particular business, it would be to your greatest advantage if you know the industry inside and out.

It's very difficult to put it all here, but all these you will learn as you experience it first hand by working, applying the knowledge, and as you gain the needed exposure.

Business-related courses (mgt., economics, marketing, accounting, finance, etc.) are good and are necessary if you plan on the safe route of getting an MBA and working for Exxon or someone. But if you really have entrepeneurship in your blood, you are old enough to start a business on the side. Maybe all you can do now is babysit or rake leaves, but if you look around you can probably find some need that's less obvious and more lucrative and fill it. No matter what service you provide, you'll get real-world experience in marketing, negotiating, networking, and all the things that make successful businesses.

By the way, people with ambition get bored with accounting pretty fast. Plan on outsourcing accounting and study all the finance you can--that's where the action is.
