Can only say that it means having an addiction. A heroin addict has a monkey on his back that he just can't get rid of.

I know d story but not wer 8 came. A monkey ride a fish n d sea 2 go 2 other place but he forgot his liver,then he promised d fish dat f d fish will go back ,d monky willl giv 2 d fish his liver, but d monkey is a liar, wen d r n d place wer d monky descend, he jst laugh at d fish. It means treachery or not true to his word!

We Southerners use the expression I have a monkey on my back, meaning heat exhaustion....Don't let that monkey get on your back....

the first answerer is right. alcholics and addicts usually say that....you are having a baroom debate...chances are you are debating an alcoholic.
