Yes he was as being the first latin american player in the MLB. He died at a very young age delivering supplies after the earthquake of Nicaragua.God bless him.

In the sense that he was breaking barriers as Robinson did, not at all. Latin players starred in the Majors long before Clemente and, in fact, before Robinson. Yes, Clemente was part of a new wave of Latinos that influenced the game as never before, but there were others.
However, Clemente had a tremendous influence on the game beyond his playing ability, arguably more so than Robinson. Clemente worked tirelessly for charity and the underprivileged, and died while performing a great humanitarian effort.

No. Roberto Clemente was Roberto Clemente and Jackie Robinson was Jackie Robinson. They inspired the next generations to be better in this sport. Each had his own style. Therefore, it would be unfair to classify someone as the ___________ of Latin America, because comparisons at time don't cut it.

That's a very good analogy. I'd never thought of this. I don't know if he was the first Latin player, but he's most definately their first superstar. So, let's just say...Yes, he in a way, is.
