I think that this is based on the assumption that the poor of other countries can't help but be poor. It is hard to suggest that a man that just had his house blown up in Pakistan, or that is starving in Rwanda should just get off his butt and get a job; whereas, the poor and homeless of this country are seen to be that way due to laziness.

I am not saying that they actually are lazy, merely that the perception exists that America is the land of infinite opportunities and anyone who wants to can succeed if they merely put their mind to it.

When we drove down I-5 to from the Northwest to California, I was shocked to see what horrible shape the interstate highway was in. I-5 is the most imporant freeway west of the Mississippi. It was falling apart. Why? Because the Republicans are so busy making tons of money on the war in Iraq, that they don't have time to think about us Americans who are paying the taxes. The Republicans don't care how bad our highways are, because they fly everywhere they want to go -- paid for by us.

Because for some reason the US can't just stay the hell out of other peoples business. I can understand when it comes things that may affect us, like weapons that may or may not be pointed specifically at us because our meddling has pissed them off....but to try and help other countries when we ourselves owe everybody somehow or another to have a billion dollar deficit is ridiculous. I totally agree with ya i mean Africa has rich Governments and they have solid gold rings,necklaces and braclets and they ordered a hercules plane full of expensive British wine off of us a few years ago.
