Hey everyone.

Question 1:
For job references (for teens who don't have little or none work experience) can a teacher and the parent I babysat for be used? And how do I approach them about it?

Question 2:
Can you ask for references when you have just applied for a job, but don't have an interview or the job yet? Like you get them just incase they are needed?

Thanks in advance

You can ask for references from any reposnible person who knows you well. These references are called character references and they are not considered as valuable as a work reference but they are better than no reference.

Babysitting is working. So you can get a work reference from the parent you babysat for simply by asking them would they mind writing you a reference.

Teachers can sometimes offer a school reference which is usually equally as valuable as a work reference to a teen or young adult.

Yes get ask for them now and always keep the origianls of your references in a folder. Only send copies to job applications.

Best of Luck with your job search

References aren't that serious. A lot of job people don't use them. I'd simply put the names of the people you have in mind on the application, and tell the people that that's their position in this application, just as courtesy if they get a call. Other than that references aren't much to worry about. They rarely ask more than a few questions about your personality and perceived lifestyle.

Teachers are excellent references, as would the parent who used you for babysitting.. You can also ask a minister, coach, or other adult that you know.

Simply tell the prospective reference you are applying for a job, and ask them if you can use them for a reference. Most adults will be glad to help.

Good luck!

YES, you can use parents you sat for as a reference, Just call and ask them, I am sure they would be glad to be a reference. A teacher is a suitable reference as well.

And it is a GREAT idea to have your references gathered in advance so you have them when you need them.

Yes, I would probably just mention in my resume that "References will be provided on request", and later, if your employer needs references, you can contact your teacher / the people you babysat for.

yes to both. they probably won't even be called.
the point of references is to have ppl who can talk you up, verify that you're responsible and have good work ethics.
