Tough question, would depend on the situation. Usually a promise is a promise, but it is a different story if you would end up doing something illegal or endangering somebody including yourself. If it is you just changing your mind you might want to reconsider, if giving your word means something to you. In the future be a little more careful, what you promise.

it depends on the situation, every person has personal judgement and view over things, there's no right or wrong, when it feels right than it's right, n so does the opposite, it's entirely depend on people's concious.
