This Laptop is 'Off-Lease' and has signs of some wear and may have cosmetic blemishes. It has been tested, refurbished, and is in good working condition.

Should I buy this laptop? I've already have a good desktop, but I'm looking for a small but good laptop to play around with in the house. Is this a good deal?

Well I thank you so far! Im looking at spending around $600.00 to 800.00 dollars. Does anyone know of a good laptop in that price range? What type of specifications should I look for, like how much memory etc.

Well, first the bad:

That processor is a little behind the times, and things may be a little slow for you, especially with only 256 MB of RAM. The screen is a little small for my tastes. So is the hard drive if you'll be saving much multimedia -- especially video. I'd want to have a CD burner or DVD burner, not just CD-ROM. And I don't think I'd want a floppy drive at all, now.

Now for the good:

It's a pretty good company for laptops (though I personally would prefer IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad for reliability and customer support). And the price is very good!

So, bottom line: I think it's ok if you'll just be doing light web surfing, getting e-mail, using word processing, etc. But if you'll be using it three or more hours a day, or you want to do much with multimedia, play any 3D games or have this laptop for five years and be able to run the latest applications all that time, I'd say spend a little more and get something else.

I wouldn't worry about the blemishes or wear; the insides are probably fine.

Hope that helps.

No, no, no!

If you cannot afford a new Dell, the co has an outlet store online where you can get current technology. These Dell machines are returned for a host of reasons - the battery wouldn't hold a charge, the CD/DVD, HD, Screen, etc. - failed.

The returned items have whatever was wrong replaced, and are resold - as a used machine for less AND you get a "new Dell" warranty. If they don't have what you're looking for today, look tomorrow.

One mans junk is another man's treasure. Depends a lot on what you want to do with it. I would bet the naysayers don't want to sell you their P4 with the DVD and wireless for 300 bucks. If that's what you have to spend, something like you're looking at is about all you will get. And consider that it's easy to upgrade to Ethernet or wireless with a plug in PCMCIA card that you can buy new for around fifty bucks. That unit doesn't sound too bad to me. But again it depends on what you want it to do. One thing, be wary of any used laptop as they are often sold with no software installed. So make sure whatever one you buy comes with installed software, and hopefully the disks.

256 MB of RAM is usually not enough for playing 3D complicated games. 20 GB of hardisk is not enuf also if ur a music or video geek.
