I am getting a laptop for college. Which is better? The Toshiba Satellite P105-S6004 or the HP DV8310us? Both have about the same features: 17'' screen, 100GB, etc....

I would choose Toshiba any day. Well seriously, Most Toshibas Ive worked with are built beautifully, have excellent graphics and sound. If you just want a regular office work horse, either should be good. Choose the cheaper one. If you're looking for a good price on new laptops, contact me.

When it comes to laptops it is coming down to Support. Toshiba is not well known for outstanding support. HP has really become well known for customer service and honoring warranties. What Dell used to be well know for. I'd say go with the HP.
Please be sure the laptop has a nice processor. If its an Intel, make sure its anything BUT a Celeron processor!

Buy the Hp for the price. Buy the Toshiba if you don't want to have to work on it. Hp has got better, but .....
Customer service is really about the same, I have a Toshiba I've had for 5 years, and never called customer support. Friends with HP/Compaq have had to have theirs worked on or call CS frequently.
I would go Toshiba.

I think hp has better tech support, one test could be to call both locations with a test problem and see who is willing to help you, if one of them seems to be difficult to deal with, then go with the other, but toshiba has some known issues, like going into sleep mode(hibernate) and not coming out of it... just a thought
