Don't worry about the meaning it doesn't really make sense without the story accompanying it. ( All you need to know is that when he touches her hand, he dies. Long story.)

He knows what he’s leaving behind
But he’s the last of all mankind
Their love didn’t go according to plan
He seals his fate with one touch of her hand
It was love at first sight
And their forever begins tonight
Would it sound better with lines 5 and 6 switched with lines 3 and 4?

I like the switched version a little better. It's a haunting, interesting poem; I'd love to know the long story.

I think that 5 and 6 switched with 3 &4 makes sense. A very artistic piece of writing!

either way is good. It's more dramatic with the switch, but it's simpler when it's not switched. take your pick :)
