first of all no.....
the New Orleans should be moved back away from the ocean....
second..all the homes should be made on top of permiable ground/stones/concrete and way above sea level a manmade mountain per se.
now....I was entered in the Pitt/NO competition and bowed out. The concept of making a new more water friendly section was both interesting and exciting to me.
The goal was not only to build a neighboorhood friendly to the environment and to defy the water surrouinding that area.
Noble gesture.....Mother nature says not to put homes there....so no matter what i think Mother nature will destroy anything there,by wind,by water,by whatever she decides to destroy it by.
Also, I think Mississippi needs a new neighboorhood as well. that area was more devistated by wind, secondly by water am i correct?
So i hope that Brad pitt and GlobalGreen decide to
rebuild there a useful area as well..
thanks...

Such a tough question!

I think everyone that **doesn't** live in New Orleans would think so. We only see it as a place rebuilt twice for similar reasons, and can't fathom why they'd want to rebuild with the possibility of it happening again.

Everyone **in** New Orleans, understandably, wants it rebuilt because they live there, perhaps their parents did, and perhaps they have good jobs that will still be there (if not already are) when the company rebuilds.

The truth is, the whole reason the US sucked it up in the first place was the location. New Orleans is a VERY important port for the US. I can't remember the exact numbers, but somewhere around 40% of our goods come through New Orleans. Way way back when our forefathers purchased it, the view was of the sea and the gulf and a way for the United States to make nice money.

So, that is why - regardless - that city will be rebuilt right where it stands. It is a prime location for importing and exporting.

Think of all the history. The Big Easy can't be moved. Mardi Gras, Blues, and all the Culture can't simply be replaced. All be it, it is pretty stupid to build a city in a giant soup bowl that's surrounded by soup.
