I am a recently registered yahoo-answers member and I was just scanning the philosophy section, I am a graduate student of philosophy, and I was extremely hard pressed to find any truly philosophical questions. Do people not know what philosophy is and just post random questions in here?

You are absolutely right. Everyone is stupid to you in comparison because you are brilliant, clever, scintillating in your wisdom. You are a mind ninja, dodging speedy bursts of illogic and throwing really cool sparkly metaphorical ninja-stars at ignorance. Your intelligence makes me fall to my knees and weep openly at the beauty of it. This is not sarcasm. If I had a womb, I would want you to impregnate it.

10 pts plz...

They don't teach philosophy in High School in the US.

I think everyone here mostly thinks philosophy is a clothing-brand or a way to prepare meat. It's all applied theory, theological questions, and chat. In short, this is the US, this is my country.. this is how people think, what they think is interesting.

Also it's summertime and I suppose most of the questions come from people on recess who may or may not have genuine worries and just classify it wrong. C'est la vie.

You have to scan the nonsense or just give up. Some other categories may be better-- Politics? I don't really stray far to know, however.

There are philosophy forums that are better online... philosophyforums, craigslist. I'd search around if you haven't already.

"Do people not know what philosophy is and just post random questions in here"? YES!

Too few people in the world actually are aware of what Philosophy is let alone being capable of asking philosophical questions!

LOL But that's a good thing to ponder over isn't it? LOL

My husband is a Philo PhD., and I have spent years watching him innocently make people squirm by asking logical, rational, pointed and simple questions. He, naively at times, assumes that the average person can have a rational discussion and provide some inkling of evidence for their thoughts and actions. Most of the time people either humor his "deep questions" or they fumble at answering him. Seldom does he recieve a response that is in return, logical, rational. etc. People, through habit, laziness, poor education, whatever!, have lost the ability to think. They can regurgatate facts, ascribe validity to their sentiments, or laugh nervously, but rarely can they meet his level of reasoning. Most conversations that move beyond gross suppositions simply involve a more sophisticated level of thinking than people currently maintain. It's not lack of intelligence, or a character flaw. Its simply our collective "thinking caps" have atrophied, and like any out of shape person, even the slightest mental exertion causes us to pant and wheeze.
In short, to a lot of people, those dumb questions really seem profound!
On a personal note, could you call and talk to him sometime? PUHLEEZE! He married me for my looks, not my brain and I cant give him the intellectual blowj0b he's always asking for! Philosophers need other philosophers! I was a theatre major for God's sake!
