I am 40 weeks this Thursday. I have been having contractions for the past 2 days. Usually 5-7 mins apart and lasting about 1 min. But then they get further between as well. But they are a bit worse than mild but not severely intense. I was told I was in early labor 2 weeks ago. That the baby was head strong down, and 2-3 centimeters dilated. Then the other night when I returned to the hospital because of the contractions they said I was still only 3 centimeters and my cervix was high. I had walked for 6 hours prior to going in as well as an hour there. My waters still not have broken and I have constant pain and pressure in my vaginal area. Been tested and have no vaginal infections. Now I am a few days from due date and none of the natural ways to induce my labor are working. I heard castor oil can harm the baby severely. I feel like my labor is going backwards, help?

NOPE just wait it out. Doctors won't let you go MORE than 2 weeks past your due date.

Keep walking, keep drinking lots of water, keep well hydrated, don't worry, do deep squats/knee bends, engage in lots of sex!

My first child was 1 day early(forceps), 2nd child 1 week late (squat bar) & 3rd/LAST child was induced 3 weeks early (C-section).

Every pregnancy is different. Just like every person AND like every doctor!!!

If your doctor isn't worried then you shouldn't be either.

This baby will come out when it's good & ready too!!!

Damn girl...I would be going crazy handling those contractions for as long as you have! I would suggest to go to the hospital and demand to get induced. I was 3 centimeters in early labor and after a few hours they checked and I had stopped dilating so they decided to induce me and in less than 30 minutes I dilated to 10 plus one. If they don't do that then I guess keep on walking or sit on one of those big exercise balls and move back and forth on it for a while..that worked for my first kid. Good Luck!!

First understand that noone has ever reached their 50th week of pregnancy! That said, babies come out when they are ready. Be patient and don't panic (at times, practitioners panic more than they should because they worry about legal consequences). Don't do anything to "progress" further as you may put additional stress on the baby. No worries, the end is near, and it will come when you least expect it . Just smile and enjoy the last moments of peace which you will miss so much later on :)

I think maybe your doctor should go ahead and induce you... go ahead and admit you into the hospital, and help labor along with a little pitocin and break your water. It's obvious you are ready to have this baby, and you wouldn't want to leave time for complications to occur. Maybe you can ask him to do this?

Congratulations on your new baby, and good luck with the delivery! I hope it goes well. I have 5, so I've been there.. I know.

Been there. Mine just came about one night behind a severe toothache. I carried my child ten months, three weeks, and four days from the time the pregnancy was confirmed. It happens sometimes. One of my father's tenants carried her child for twelve months from her pregnancy being confirmed. I don't know what to tell you. I had several stress tests done and they found nothing. I was in labor for a little over two weeks before my son was born. I think the toothache pushed it over sometimes. Sorry I couldn't help you. Just wanted to let you know someone else has experienced that too.

As far as I know, besides walking, the only way to induce labor after the contractions have started is to have the doctor/midwife break your water or be given drugs to induce your labor. Just tell your doctor that you are concerned and ready to have the baby and go on his/her judgment. Take it easy and relax. . . it will happen sooner than you think.
