when I put the disk in and the install page comes up it says that I already have an operating system and will not install.

Formatting is one way, but you are guarenteed to lose all information

If I recall correctly, you can boot into dos, and manually delete most of windows. I can't remember exactly, but I think the full install disk looks for files in c:\windows\system and c:\windows\inf

If you can delete all of the information in those directories, it might just install...

Here are a few handy commands for you..
In dos, To delete all files in one directory
del *.*

if you have deltree, this is very handy
deltree c:\windows\system
this should delete c:\windows\system and all files in that folder..
