Started it and it stayed in drive2 for 45 minutes, even if I shifted to low, it stayed in drive2. Then I turned it off. came back in two hours, started it up and it shifts fine. I am avoiding using drive 2,3 and low...but why would it stick this just once? 150,000 miles...and changed torque converter at 110,000. fluid is good.

Something caused the transmission to go into what is known as "limp in" mode. Most likely it was the output speed sensor. When you restart the van, it would then go out of limp, until another sensor reading tripped the computer again.

Have the Transmission computer scanned for codes. That will tell you what the problem is!

Edit The transmission code will NOT usually set the check engine light, but will be stored in the computer
