Pirates of The Carribean. It's an old idea brought back to the screen again except it more realistic even if there is a lot of special effects in the movie. While Superman Returns is old hat. Superman has been around for year either in comic book form, TV shows or made into movies. I guess you can say I have seen enough of Superman story ideas to get bored with the whole Superman story line.

Pirates of the Caribbean definitely.
Superman Returns is centered in mainly one character--Superman, which is okay with me but that doesn't give anything to the plot. With Pirates of the Caribbean however, the characters are more involved therefore creating an imaginative twist to the plot (besides being "mythical").
I like movies wherein their plot revolves around more than one or two characters. It gives the story a little bit more of an edge in creating a complex storyline.

I agree, I thought that Supes was better. Pirates was good, but it didn't thrill me.
WARNING SOME SPOILERS HERE: When I heard the music, when I saw Superman breaking the sound barrier, and when he spent his last energy pushing that mountain into space; I was thrilled down to my socks!
I'm not a bible thumper but the book says: "No greater love has man than this; to put down his life for the life of his friend." Superman was sick, he knew that the Kryptonite in the mountain could kill him, yet he still pushed it out into space. When he had that Kryptonite shard in his chest he knew it and still he went back. I just don't see that in Pirates. Maybe if Kera Knightly's character didn't have to handcuff Captain Jack Sparrow to the ship, then maybe I would have felt something similar for him.

I LIKED BOTH.
BOTH MOVIES HAD INTERESTING SEGMENTS!
Musical scores were very good.
Special effects were great!
Pirates was a different kind of movie...no real hero- lots of anti-hero types.
Kevin Spacey may never work again after being so diabolical!
I think the Superman score is fabulous and nothing could be more in keeping with who Superman is and what he represents.
Capt. Jack isn't so lovable any more.
The special effects, sets and make up were outstanding in Pirates.
The special effects in SM lifted me out of my seat.
