When I say wierd, I mean names like "Latisha" and "Tamika", etc. where do these names come from? What country do they originate from? What year did they first appear? And why don't other races use these names?

Just an update, I'm not trying to offend anyone by my question, I'm just wondering where these names came from.

They weren't meant to be weird, they were ment to be unique because black mothers got tired of naming their kids Ashley, Amanda, Brittany, Danielle, Sarah and all those other names that every other little girl in school had. They wanted to be different and now it's considered stupid, ignorant, ghetto and whatever else demeaning people say. And it's less likely a child will have the exact same name. But my name's Chelsea and I'm black, but I've got cousins with names like Dekeria and Happiea. Or they'll spell names different (I met a girl named Typhanni alternate spelling of 'Tiffany') It's just different and most other races don't use them because sometimes they can be hard to pronounce and they don't want their kids names to be stupid or blackish...which isn't true but that's usually the mentality.

Other races do use these names. Latisha is not a weird name. There is no such thing as a weird name. Someone came up with it and that is what it is...simply a name. The world caters to mostly Eurocentric names so everything outside of that appears "weird" when it's not. Open your eyes and see something fascinating that just your corner.

By the way, these names have been used for years. I know of a Caucasian woman with the name LaTanya and she is in her 50's..go figure.

First of all don't even start because some of these supposed worshiped white folks named their kids "Apple" and "Shiloh" and I know some white girls who named their baby some weird asss names as you call it.
These names you are referring to did not originate from anywhere other than our own creativity. Some people got tired of the same lame old common white names that your people came up with and so we came up with other stuff. You don't have to like it, but don't diss it...That was towards "towel boy" or whoever the f*ck answered first.
I unfortunately got stuck with a white asss name, but I spell it differently.
Our names are original and now I know a lot of white people trying to emulate it, so watch what you say.

By the way, the word is WEIRD, not WIERD.

Only names like those you mention are weird. I actually like some of them such as: Deirdre, Ditra, Keisha, Shaniqua, Tasha, Yolonda I like the names where the parents take the time to come up with creative ones. I don't like the ones that come from ignorance because the parents don't know what the words mean. I mean like names of veneral diseases, reproductive organs, household products, and the like. Yes, some poor kids are named after reproductive organs. One was pronounced Vuh-gee-nuh. Another had a name pronounced Peh-nees.

If you think those names are weird, then you should admit that a whole lot of names are just as weird like Gilbert, Phyllis, or Jake, or Chad, or Wanda. A lot of white people are naming their kids with last names like: Duke, Baron, Vaughn, Taylor, Conner. A lot of lame celebrities name their kids after places or made up stuff like: Kal-el, Apple, Shiloh... etc.

People of all cultures have always broke tradition and introduced and invented new names for sentimental and cultural reasons.

FYI, there are also white women who have names such as those. The names are not weird, they are creative. I'd rather name my kid Latika than some idiotic name like many white celebrities do.

I don't think they're wierd names at all. They are unique and in most cases they originate from Africa or Jamaica. My sisters' name is Soledad,it's originated from Mexico....my grandbabys' name is Marijha, which if from Africa...such beautiful and original names...just as they are!!!!!!!!

I think its great that they have unique names. Go to a store and someone says hey Mike or a popular name and 50 people turn there heads thinking its them.
