My husband has 2 siblings, brother and sister. His sister (lets caller her #1) and I are very close, we do everything together from shopping to vacations, she was even the matron of honor in my wedding. My husbands brother just recently got married to a girl (lets call her #2) that #1 had a hard time accepting, as did I. We often found ourselves talking negatively about her and purposly not including her whenever we hung out. I decided to make a change and give #2 a chance which in turn makes #1 upset. What do I do? I dont want to hurt #1's feelings or make #2 feel left out anymore.

Try sharing your thoughts and feelings about #2 with #1. Chances are when she sees how unfair it is to continue to give #2 the cold shoulder, she'll change her mind too.

Your relationship with # 1 has NOTHING to do with your relationship with #2. THey can remain separate. You may enjoy the company of #1 differently than you do with #2. People have different qualities. There may be many things that you and #2 have in common, you just dont know it yet. You need to give #2 a chance. Remember someone gave you a chance to be their friend. #1 can end up doing the same thing to you. What goes around....you know the rest.

It sounds to me like #1 feels as if she is being replaced by the new sister in law. I think you are doing the right thing by having a change of heart. I would sit down with sister in law #1 and explain this sudden change you had. Maybe after hearing your explanations, she too will have a change of heart.

Sounds to me like you finally seen the light an choose to stop being out of the way to the young lady and maybe if your #1 would do the same she would feel better on the inside also.....No need in treating people with a lack of respect, everyone is different.

Maybe you should make a plan for the 2 to be friends.
