Why is USA ranked higher than Mexico? USA is #14 and Mexico is #18, correct me if i'm wrong but didn't Mexico advance further than the USA? the only explanation i can think of is that the USA was given more credit cause it played a tie game with the eventual World Cup champs (Italy) any way can anyone explain this? don't get me wrong i'm very happy that the USA is still ranked as high as it is, i'm just curious how this happened.

FIFA needs to rework the way they calculate their standings,it's obviously flawed

Because the US beat Mexico 3 of 4 games when qualifying for the World Cup.

hello
I am with JENNIFER C on this issue. If it is as a previous answerer suggested, looked at over an 8 year period, it certainly needs an overhaul. That would not reflect the accuracy of how teams are performing these days, in the past few years as it should. I am still confused about some and feel it is not all that accurate again. But I should not complain Australia has moved from 42, I think up to 33 so that is an improvement. But I completely understand your point.

FIFA's ranking isn't based just on the games played on WC. It takes under consideration last 4 years (they just changed it from last 8 years) of performance of any given national team in any international game. Each game has assigned importance of the game (4 levels- friendly game;qulifying game; game on WC). The importance of the game is connected to the points you can get for a particular game. So, for a win 3pts, for a draw 1 point, and for the loss 0 pts. Depending on importance of the game (friendly, qualifier, or WC game) those points are multiplied by a given coefficient. More important game the bigger coefficient. They also take under consideration the strength of the opponent (based on the ranking) which also have a given coeficient which is calculated ((201-position in the ranking)/100). There are many more smaller factors to consider when calculating the team's posistion in the ranking, if you want to read more about it visit this link. http://www.fifa.com/documents/tournaments/FIFA_WR_revision_E.pdf

Based on their performance in the 2002 world cup. They made it through the quaterfinals. In fact, they would have made it further this year if they actually had supporters from their country who cared about soccer. But apparently the most international sports competition in the world is less interesting than the American footbal championship between US teams according to US citizens. It really shows you how isolated the US is as a country!

actual, Mexico receives a mild area yet i imagine its about even. U.S. replaced into lacking a large style of key gamers (quite on protection). And in case you've been gazing the game at present you'd recognize that there replaced right into a huge majority of mexican followers. i does not problem inspite of the actuality that Mexico properly easily flow previous the U. S. after triumphing the gold cup.

because in Switzerland they are afraid that the US will drop a bomb if (god forbid) Mexico was better at anything than them...

but seriously, it's according to what teams they have played in the last 4 years, and the difficulty of the teams, also taking into account the wins and loses.

That is ****** up. If you look at all the tournerments Mexico have won and how far they got in the world cup then Mexico are way better.
