I don't know how any one can go from the dsl to the 56k modem. I am sure the the first seconds won't be so bad as you get to hear the great dial up tune. Then you will proceed to try to visit websites with the lovely 56k and you will find your self yelling at the computer for no reason and cheering on the computer as the progress bar slowly makes it's way across the screen. By the end of the week if your still alive (you didn't continuously bang your head against a wall because it was more entertaining than the 56k.) you will then get your dsl back, I would recomend easing into it, you will have gone partially crazy because of the week and if you go in to fast you might actually get so surprise you could hurt your self that finding out that such things as a faster internet actually existed. well have a good week

Get over it... I'm stuck with dial-up permanently.

Ways to speed your computer up:
1. Get a good spyware/adware scanner. Can be found @ www.download.com

2.Clear cookies and cache

3.Run scandisk and disk defrag

4.Having a good, reliable ISP helps alot too. Try to stay away from Netzero and junk like that.

Go to your nearest library and get these things called books. They are great you can pass time by reading them. You won't even notice you have a slow internet connection. It is only a week you will live.

Go to walmart and buy a wireless USB adapter, plug it in and install the drivers from the CD, If your neighbors have a wireless network,,,, BINGO, you will have high speed internet. (the internet is plug and play, theres no hacking involved, its plug and play.. Return the wireless adapter when you get your high speed back.

Get off line and do something. If you have to be on line, remember that our "slow" internet was fast 5-10 years ago. Just be patient, it doesn't take that long.

How to cope. Have a good book to read while you wait for pages to load....and have some strong booze in the house too because you are gonna need it...

if your neighbors use wireless internet, and they are right next to your house, get a wireless card and try hacking their high speed wireless internet
you can get a signal for a nice 50 yards or so
