What is Methylated Spirits called in the United States?

Question

I have a camping stove that runs off methylated spirits and I need to buy fuel for it. Every American I ask has never heard of methylated spirits, or even anything like it. Read the Wiki description http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methylated_spirit, where can I buy this in the US?

Ok, several things. In the U.S., they are all sold under each name. The funny thing is that although they are the same material, often different prices are charged. Just a curiousity.

OK, here they are:

Plain ol , "denatured alcohol," available at most hardware stores.

In the UK it s called "methylated spirits."
In the US, "denatured alcolhol."

It's called "denatured alcohol", and it's pretty darned cheap. You can get it at almost any hardware store, in any camping store, and in most camping sections at a large Walmart.

You can also find it at boat supply stores, It's sometimes called "marine fuel".

HEET also works very well in the stove, and you can find it in the automotive section at Walmart, or in any automotive store, of course. It costs more then denatured alcohol, and doesn't burn quite as well, but more than well enough.

The best possible fuel is 190 proof grain alcohol. It burns better and hotter and more efficiently than any other form of alcohol. You can get it at any good liquor store. The kind buy is called "Golden Grain". It costs thirteen dollars a fifth, which is expensive, but it's safe around kids, can be burned inside a shelter, and can be used for medicinal purposes. To me, the advantages more than make up for the cost.

Just do not burn isopropyl alcohol (Rubbing alcohol). Not only is it a deadly poison that can kill, or make you go blind, it also burns dirt, and has water in it. You should only use it in a dire emergency.

Use Coleman campstove fuel from Wal-Mart.

I use unleaded supreme gasoline in mine, works fine just be sure to empty the tank if you are gonna store it. Gasoline will gel.

I think you are talking about Smelling Saltz? Revives a fainter - that sort of thing. We also have Vicks Mentholated Rub - the texture of Vaseline, you rub it on your chest to unclog your breathing when you have a cold. You should be able to buy either of these things at any drug store or pharmacy.

Coleman sells that liquid stove fuel you are looking for...but, I forget what it's called......

you can find it in the camping section at your local Wal Mart...or K-Mart store.....
