i wanna say... some of the books at the library are too old, and the most recently written ones are all checked out. but i sound reli informal/stupid if i say it like that. how else can i say it? THANKS!

Given that it can actually be some time between a book being written and actually being published (i.e. sitting on the book store shelves), you could say "most recently published" or "more recently published". You might refer to them as the "current page-turners", "page-turner" being the book equivalent to the movie "block-buster".

You could say "and all of the more current ones are checked out." or "and the newer ones are all checked out."
