the clips are a secondary device to hold the winsheild on......if the car gets in a crash the windod could let loose but the clips are attached to the body around the winshield there are 5 at the top and 2 on each side and at the bottom the winsheild fits in a groove

are you talking windshield tear offs...if so its when the window gets dirty and oily they can tear off a clear cover to make the windshield clean again..
