If you didn't finalize and close your cd, you may not read it again. Try to use the same software version used to burn the cd to see if it works.

It may have been recorded on an old format that you new CD player is not compatible with.

It might have been scratched...
All you can do is check for the files recorded in the disc and burn it again. Another option is that you can check it in another CD-ROM.

to make things easy just re-recorded the CD on a newer disc

Either you scratched it or it wore out. CD-R's don't have infinite lives as much as you'd like to think they do.

Perhaps you need to download it onto your computer and reburn it.
