This is what happened: we were supposed to go out together and it was very important to me since we don't dress up much to go out and this was a special ocassion for the both of us, but when his job made him work till midnight he made no excuses. This bothers me because I've lied to my job so we can go out together several times and he has yet to do it for me. So here I am at home with a beautiful black dress and amazing nine west shoes that I will probably not wear anytime soon and no where to go. Should I be mad at him?

P.S. He works in the local movie theatres. I'd be more sensible if he were a brain surgeon.

well think about the future, imagine that he goes to colege, finds a good business job buys you a beamer a big house and altogether gives you a comfortable life. now put him into the same situation his you two have a special occasion your all dressed up ready to go he calls and tells you that the boss is making him work late on the big merger deal because the other guy was sick. woukd you want him to say no to his boss and risk all that you two built together? the qualities that he shows in a low paying crap movie theatre job will only be magnified in a job of higher importance.
now for a dirrect answer: should you be disapointed definately, it was your special night. should you be mad at him, no he doesnt have control over his boss.
forgive him for not being able to make but try to get him to make it up, he should definately want to do that.

Maybe your boyfriend needs that money.
Maybe your boyfriend likes his job and doesn't want to be fired.
Maybe your boyfriend has a strict boss and he knows he'll be in trouble.
Maybe you are overacting.
Maybe you should go to the mirror and tell yourself how beautiful you are.
Maybe you can call him when he gets out of work and plan a night out another night.

Is his job more demanding and strict on these polocies? I know my last one had no tolerance for absence or refusal of overtime. Just think if he gets in trouble and loses his job......In the future he won't have the $$$ to take you anywhere in your 9 west shoes. Don't be too hard on him.

Although it sux.. no u shouldnt be mad at him for having to work.. if he called it off to do something else like go out with friends that would be one thing , but this really isnt something he could of controled not all boss' are as easy to get out of things as other boss' are.. so take that into consideration.. Its one thing to be disappointed, u can be disappointed but i wouldnt get mad at him.. not for this one..

It sounds like your boyfriend is honest, you should be proud of that not mad. Don't take it personal just think if hes honest in something that most guys and people would lie in he could very well be honest and upfront with you just as much.

Are there other problems? You need to insist that he do something else with you soon! I wouldn't return the dress or shoes just yet!! Let him make it up to you!

He had to work late, and did the ethical thing by staying. You want to jeopardize his job and compromise his morals by having him lie?
I think you would do him a favor by breaking up with him.

yeah, I'd be pissed. Unless he's a doctor or somthing that someone's life depended on him OR he would have gotten fired........he has NO excuse for ruining your night. He's selfish and a jerk. You're right to be mad.

I wouldn't. Who wants a liar for a boyfriend? I think he's being very responsible. Just think now you guys can have more money to spend...
