Hi guys! Look...I was wondering...I'm moving to the US and I was wondering what documents besides the "green card" would I need to get my DL?
The thing is...Im gonna move as a legal resident but the whole documentation process usually takes more than a year to be completed so I was wondering if I can get my drivers license with a TAX ID or something else besides a permanent resident document because I cant like wait for 3 years to start driving....
Thanks a lot!

If you are becoming a landed immigrant you will need to get a DL for the state were you reside. You will need to find out what the state requires as each one is different. Most states require proof of insurance and your birth certificate or passport. Some states now require proof of residence. International drivers license are only good if you are going to be a visitor.

For a while you can drive using some internationally recognized driver license, if you have one. But soon you must find closest DMV office (Dept Motor Veh). Good luck. Almost everybody in US came here, - if not now then a few generations ago. If I memeber correctly, now every 10th or 9th US citizen is born not in US.

Go to DMV (Dept. of Motor Vehicles)

To be sure, bring your passport and possibly your birth certificate.
