The main functions of a line backer is to be the second line of defense, so if the runner passes the defensive line the linebackers are there to catch them. They normally account for the most tackles. Linebacker have the best view of the QB and backfield so they tend to coordinate defensive changes at the line of scrimmage. They are a mix between speed and strength. Along with tackling, linebackers also cover recievers in case the offense wants to throw for a couple of yards.

linebackers are the best athletes on the team. they job is to stop the run first then go cover in either a zone or man. most Of the time they cover running back or tight ends but they may cover widoe out in the slot.

they are the qb of the defense...the mlb calls the d plays and makes the on field adjustments in the 4/3..same is true in the 3/4
