First, understand whether this is something you truly wish to do. Then, be honest not brutal, fair not selfish, nice but not sweet. If the man needs time, don't let him prolong it. If he needs a single hug it's not the end of your world. If your cry too long than you care too much. If you feel ok than you're doing the right thing.

straight to his face, honest but remember-he does have feelings, but if your gut is telling you the time youve been together has come to and end, dont let his feelings being hurt stop you from where you need to go in life (even if you dont know anything except that its time to move on from your relationship with him). but be sure ok?

chinadoll has it perfectly. Honesty is so much more respectful. I have broken up with three of my girfriends this last year and was honest to them about my feelings (or lack of them) and they still call me to this day as friends.

set it up so that he catches you having sex with his father/brother/mother or hell all of them. That should get the point across. Just make sure that there are no fire arms around or you will be one dead weak willed twit
