How can anyone be happy that they won after they repetitly cheated, faked injuries and verbally harassed so many people?

For those of you that are suggesting that I don't konw anything about soccer, you are wrong. I have been following Eurocups and World cups religiously since the late 90s and watched every single game of the 2006 Fifa world cup. So spare yourself the energy of calling me ignorant just because you won't admit that Italy is the team that has the worst ethics. Did you notice any faking or verbal harrassment during France Brasil? Most of the teams that cheat, dive etc. just follow Italy's example and anyone who watches soccer is sick of them. I am so glad that most players are being demoted in Italy and punished for their cheating. Right after "winning the world cup! How ironic!

Well, headbutting another player on the pitch - while you are at work and should behave professionally - isn't very ethical either. So, you are at work and your co-workers call you or your mother or your sister bad names. What do you do? Do you headbutt them? Is violence ethical?

Unlike yours, however, my point is NOT to prove "how unethical French soccer players are".

My point is, all teams do that. If you don't like it, watch a different sport -- like most Americans do, by the way ;-)

P.S.
If even American sports are unethical, why should Americans bother if Italian soccer players are ethical or unethical?

Like you're an expert on ethics?! Please, do the world a favour and keep your discrimination to yourself. You probably do not know the first thing about soccer. Educate yourself. Watch a few games objectively and stop buying into all this Italian bashing.

Italy won the World Cup. Accept it and move on. Perhaps the next time the USA wins a major sports championship, we should rain on your parade by calling you unethical bullies who try to enforce its views on the world???

Oh, but that wouldn't be nice, would it? It wouldn't be very ethical to do that, would it Miss Ethics??!!

Why aren't you criticizing the German and Spanish teams for being unethical? Their respective soccer leagues had investigations for match-fixing as well. But it is rather apparent that only the Italian league is taking it seriously as the other leagues have swept their investigations under the rug. The soccer scandal has nothing to do with the players; it involves certain members of the team management.

For someone who "watched every single game of the world cup", try taking your biased blinders off. Who are you to accuse the Italians of repeatedly cheating, faking injuries, and verbally harassing other players? How can you deny the fact that Italy won it's games and never conceded a goal in regular play (other than 1 own goal)? I guess the Italians must have bribed the ball or harassed the net into letting in those goals.

Perhaps you should stop watching mobster movies and attributing unethical behaviour to all Italians, including Italian soccer players. Your blanket statement about Italians is insulting and discriminatory.

Whoopi, you've been following soccer since the 90's. Well there are a lot of us in the US who have been watching and following soccer for many years - would you believe since back in the 60's. So there's one generalization down the tubes. Moreover, I doubt seriously that all Italians have benefited from some of the controversial things that have occurred in Italian soccer including the players themselves. If your talking about their play on the pitch, I would again point out that there are a few players that engage in acts that aren't ethical (Materazzi); however, I can show you just as many, if not more, on other teams. There's two generalizations down the tube. Open debate is a good thing but you won't get that if right off the bat you set yourself up for only wanting to hear your own opinion.

I live in the United States. I hate Italian soccer (football), and while they didn't cheat in their last three games in my opinion, they did against Australia, and played poorly in their first few games, yes, they still dive, and as far as the verbal harassment goes, I am tired of people complaining about Materazzi. There are always insults on the pitch. Yes, some of them are really bad...well, guess what, it goes bothways. If you think that Italy is the only team that insults players family members using choice words, you need to gain some intelligence. Anyway, we all know that Germany played the best and was just unlucky. And, to really answer your question, it is because people in this country are incredibly arrogant, selfish, self-centered, and stupid, with a lack of regard to fairness and justice as long as things go our way. So there you are.

the players are not related to match fixing scandal. They are the victims of it along with the supporters! Here is Australia we had a rugby player that was sticking his finger up his oponents bums while tacking them! That is the worst this I have ever seen on a sporting pitch! Then our Australian media says that the italians are bad on the sports field! I think people should look in there own back yard before jusding others

wow, your kind of ignorant to the sport of soccer arnt you? You think the italians are the only ones who do this? Soccer players talk alota crap, they say things to get in each others heads to win. Dont ridicule just the italians for this...if your going to ridicule you should just ridicule the sport for it being played that way.
