With the congress handing out money to the oil companies, the weakening US economy and wars in the middle east, $2/gal is gone forever.

nuke lefties: yes, i have taken economics courses.

Have you considered that the oil companies have
resisted efforts to build ANY refineries in 25 years in order to reduce supplies?

Or that this administration is FULL of former oil industry executives.

Or that energy corporations met with Cheney in 2001 to write our national energy policy.

Or that Cheney/Rumsfeld have been pushing for war in the middle east since the '70s, so they could build a pipeline to the Persian Gulf.

Or that before the current Iraq war, their country was divided up among the various american oil companies.

But I guess thats just a coincedence, right?

Isimply cannot believe the crap I am hearing here. 5$ a gallon is acceptable? NO WAY! You all say that it is 7$ in Europe, big deal. They recycle, they have decent public transportation, they know that you can't live on 5.15 an hour. They have their **** together. It's not perfect. It didn't happen overnight. We should learn from others mistakes. We should improve our quality of life to match that of the rest of the civilized world. We are Americans and I guess that means we have the god-given right to defy the rest of the world just so we can say we did. You all need to open your eyes and climb out of the conservative republican box you have ben living in!

With the wars in the Middle East it very well could. Now, I'm sure you think that is somehow the government's (ie President Bush) fault. Please explain your logic. Have you ever taken an economics course? Do you understand supply and demand? The fear of reduced supplies due to the war in the Middle East will increase the price of crude. It's very simple. The market sets worldwide pricing not the US government. Except for the taxes on gas which I'm sure you wouldn't want to reduce.

Have you considered that the oil companies have
resisted efforts to build ANY refineries in 25 years in order to reduce supplies? That's due to enviornmental regulations. As long as the seagulls are safe who cares how much gas costs.

Or that this administration is FULL of former oil industry executives. Your point? I do remember peanut prices going up during the Carter administartion.

Or that energy corporations met with Cheney in 2001 to write our national energy policy. They are energy experts. Should Green Peace have written our energy policy?

Or that Cheney/Rumsfeld have been pushing for war in the middle east since the '70s, so they could build a pipeline to the Persian Gulf. And maybe if we'ed had war in the '70's 9/11 might not have happened.

Or that before the current Iraq war, their country was divided up among the various american oil companies. You need to give me a source on this one. Not that I believe you have an adgenda you're trying to push.

But I guess thats just a coincedence, right?

Does there have to be a conspiricy with everything with you people. The University of Texas won the National Football Championship this year. Hey, George Bush was the governer of Texas?????? Someone call USC!

2 bucks is probably a happy memory. 5 bucks by 2007, probably not, just because Iran and other Al Qaida supporting Arab nations will happily sell us their oil to pay for the weapons they hope to kill us with. Plus, Bush will sign an executive order opening up national forests for drilling before he leaves office.

If we could do more drilling in our country, lower the gas tax and build new refineries it might not. As things are now I think $3.50 is a reasonable guess.

The US has one of the lowest gas prices in the world. It hit $7/gallon in England a few months ago. I don't know why we complain the way we do.

As much as I hate to say it...yes. But the real question would be...if prices of gas go up, and the snowball effect gets rolling, are our paychecks going to "rise" as well? Um. No. They wouldn't. (Now taking donations to survive as a middle-classer)

:)

the us congress isn't handing money out to them; the american ppl are by buying gas.

it is unlikely gas will become $5 a gallon this year.
