If it is still on his record then yes! In 2001 I was busted with over 1 ounce of meth. and after I did my time and did all the necessary steps they asked,I got my felony exponged from my record(erased) even though that's a different issue,I just wanted you to know your not alone. I think you should call a local police department or ask a court official if there is in fact a felony on your record. Also the key word here is fined! if you didn't do any time then its a misdimeaner,or at least in my state. If so then you were never convicted and you dont have to admitt, but read the question on the drug offence(on your app.) it might be a "less than10 year" question, meaning you have the right to deny if it says "have you had a conviction or what ever in less than ten years" then your okay

I think that he should be frank when applying the job especially he is applying for management post. Most of the company here will carry out check on the employees background.
So it is better to be truthful rather than hide the fact.

Isn't 10 years about the limit as far as what they can ask? I mean, it's ultimately up to him, but people are pretty judgemental, especially when they are giving out authority, of ANY kind. I say he needs to keep his mouth shut unless he has any current drug problems. If he cleaned himself up, let it be his secret. Only he can know for sure if that experience plays a factor in his current life and his decision=making ability. He could tell them, but would they really even be able to be totally objective? They can't know exactly what that experience has taught him.

Many companies do background checks so if they ask, do NOT lie - as it will cause the person to lose their job or get fired. However, the standard amount of time they go back to check criminal records is 7 years so he might not have to disclose this fact. The application sheet or background form release sheet should tell you how many years you need to report on..

Even an expunged record stays with you at some levels. Being it was on record, divulge it.

Then explain what happened, and make certain they realize how long ago it was.
