I believe in reincarnation...
So here it is...
Every living thing has a soul.
When a living thing dies the soul leaves the body and go to what I call the "paradise". A place where no worries and no time. Upon entering (some people call the "pearly gates") we are confronted and showed what we have done while we are "alive" in the mortal world and the main objective is if we have finished our mission in that life time. If we have, then we are given the "time" to rest in what I call a "paradise".
As a soul, we are welcome to come back and visit our loved ones that is still here. Being in this relm of souls, we are granted by God to know everything he/she knows.
Eventually, its time for our soul to return to be given another mission. When this time is up we a re given a choice to which mother to be born in. The mother we choose has to play a role of completing this new task.
You might ask about what I mean about a task or mission?
*** The goal is to not ever come back to this mortal world, but we must have to be worthy so God gives us a mission to complete on each life time and eventually, we become as pure as God and be one with the "Light".

Technically, the matter that makes up you, and the energy that is used to keep you alive, has, and always will exist for eternity (or at least since the Big Bang).
Before death, your atoms could be found anywhere. On the other-side of the planet. The kitchen table. An interesting hypothetical theory formulated a while back claims that every human on the Earth has 1 atom from Einstein's body. The depicts the cycling of energy and matter throughout.
After death, you atoms are merely put back into the system, to be used for an infinite amount of other purposes.
Remember, if you were to pick yourself apart, atom by atom, what you would be left with at the end is a pile of atomic dust, that never was, and never will be alive.

I can only tell you what I was taught in catholic gradeschool and from a movie I once saw. My thought is that before you were a twinkle in your parents eyes you were in a place called "limbo", it's a holding place somewhere outside of heaven where you wait to be called on to come to earth. After you die you follow the light, end up at the gate where St. Peter is and are held in "limbo" until it is determined either that you go to heaven or hell.

Good question!
My hopeful guess is a place so beautiful and beyond our comprehension,
with those and that which you love.
I read the book "A World Beyond" by Ruth Montgomery and found it interesting. ( It was way weird--this book just appeared in the book drop one day when I was working at the library! I took it home and read it!)
I think it may be different for different people, too.

Hi! Only God, the Creator, knows because He existed before anything else. Just like if you want to know all about a machinery, ask its manufacturer for the answers and definitely they will be able to enlighten you with accurate informations. Logic?

one answer goes back to a druid thought that it is the same place, schollars understand that the druids believed in two plains of exhistence and our soul is recycled between them, when we die the soul is born again on the other side, and visa versa, because of this belife they would not mourn a death but celeebrate the birth of someone on the other side...

Before your birth you are one of tow things:
1. Inside your mother
2. Non existant
Where you go after death really depends on your religion but I believe that if you are good god sends us up and if we are bad he sends us down.

some Yogis describes how they themself watched the get away of the soul from physique, They observed a faint violet mist upward thrust from the loss of life physique, gradually condensing right into a parent which replace into the counterpart of the expiring man or woman, and linked to that man or woman with the aid of a glistening thread(Yamadhootas). The snapping of the thread potential the breaking of the final magnetic hyperlink between the dense physique and the Soul, the physique has dropped remote from the soul; he's excarnated, disembodied; then based upon their karma soul is going to distinctive place and with the aid of nutrition it is going to someother persons physique and take delivery from them......
