Possible locations of Camelot include:

Saltwell Park, in Gateshead
Cadbury Castle
Tintagel Castle
Viroconium
Caerleon-on-Usk, in South Wales
Dinerth Castle near the River Arth, West Wales
Carlisle, Cumbria
Camlet Moat, Trent Park, Middlesex
Though the name "Camelot" may be derived from Camulodunum (modern Colchester), the Iron Age capital of the Trinovantes, and later the provincial capital of Roman Britannia, its Essex location close to the east coast - and so very close to the earliest Anglo-Saxon settlement - places it in the wrong Anglo-Saxon kingdom.

I love Arthurian tales, so I hate to be the sole spoilsport.

Despite recent revisionist history, I doubt King Arthur has anything more than the tiniest resemblance to any actual historical figure. Sir Thomas Malory's Le Morte D'Arthur is fiction based on earlier fictional sources from Britain and France, even though he said it was a history. Since there was no real King Arthur, there was no King Arthur's castle. Sorry.

Everyone knows King Arthur's Castle is in Camelot. That is where Gwenevere, King Arthur and Sir Lancelot live happily ever after.

Born at Tintagel [sp] , buried at Avalon. The lake is gone, but the tor is still there. There are several theories as to where Camelot was. I saw a show on the Discovery Channel that suggested the site is now abandoned. It was made of wood, not stone, so there's not much left besides the hill.
