While not a licensed electrician, I have done major electrical repairs to houses that I own. I have also had electricians check my work on occasion, (when a licensed electrician is needed due to building permit issues) and have been offered jobs by them, because of the quality of my work.

It may cost more to correct a badly done job, but if it is done correctly, the cost of hiring someone rather than my doing it myself is too high!!

I am not an electrician and I know nothing about wires, yet I love to try. There is that thrill of doing somthing right while not knowing what you're doing. It's a turn of for any guy. lol

The homeowner might be inexperienced and not only mess up the wiring but could be at risk of physical damge. It's better and safer to invest in professional help. Prevention is better than solution.

what if you know everything about the job you need to do??? there are those of us who can live without an electrician, plumber, or auto-mechanic. why does everyone think that simply fixing things yourself is expensive, dangerous, or impossible

Combining jobs could save you the service charge from being charged more than once. Have a nice day.

It's also illegal for a non-licensed person to alter any electrical wiring in some states.

not to mention a wanna-be electrician could potentially burn down the house or electrocute themselves to death.

I do. All I know about electricity is that I would not do it myself anymore than I would do my own brain surgery.
