Most playwrights are men and the majority of the parts they write are male parts, Shakespeare's plays have 15-20 parts for actors and maybe 5 parts for actresses (and in his day they were played by boys!)

Female unemployment in Equity is higher than male unemployment as a result,

Reminds me of the story where a director said that all the male actors had to wear a 'box' for the battle scenes. An actor was heard to enquire, 'Even those with small parts?'

Don't get locked into teen or 'pretty young thing' roles. Show some versatility early on and be prepared to take more mature and challenging roles as you yourself get older. Don't be afraid to ask, and even fight, for a role which expends your horizons - and be prepared to bust your a** to earn it.

And for God's sake, STAY OUT OF PORNO! That's the kiss of death for any serious actress.

They change, and it can be hard on some. You can start an ingenue, and end up a character actor. If you can't/won't bend, then yes the roles dry up. But there are plenty of mothers, and aunts, parts etc.

In Theatre, many 60 year olds play 30 year olds. Many 30 year olds play teenagers. It is only when you start to look old that you start to play old. Be aware of how old you look on stage and audition for roles in that age range. If you get an agent, they can help advertise your flexibility in age range around.

Unfortunately the parts OFFERED to any actress do as they grow older.
The best advice I can think of to offer is to be the best actress possible in the widest variety of roles you can play, then hopefully you will always be in demand to some extent.

I disagree. I believe there are some REALLY great roles out there for older women. The characters no longer are the ingenues, but still many great roles.

KY has a new areosol product you might want to try. I understand it is scented. They also have a "Warming" product that adds a stimulating "Warmth" as it lubricates.

Personally, I prefer the flavored products.... but that's just me.
