No. Mars made its closest pass to Earth in recorded history in August of 2003, and every year since assorted idiots post the information to the internet as though it were this year. One of the news items about this in 2003 mentioned that Mars THROUGH A SMALL TELESCOPE would look as large as the full Moon to the naked eye, and the idiots-that-be have chosen to ignore the bit about the telescope. To the naked eye at that time Mars looked like a very bright star.

Earth passes Mars about every 27 months, at which time the apparent size of Mars can range from 14" (14 arc-seconds) to 25". It was about 20" at the November 2005 opposition, and will be only 16" in December 2007. The next close pass will be in July 2018 when it will appear nearly as large as in 2003.

Mars is 142 million miles from the sun, and earth is 93 million miles from the sun. That means that if both earth and mars were lined up at their closest points to each other, they would still be 49 million miles apart. Mars is only 4,212 miles wide, about half that of earth. An object this small, at that distance will only look like a very bright star. Sorry.

No, that's a hoax email. There are numerous websites you can check to see what will actually be in the sky. Check planetariums in your area for the best details, they will tell you whats visible where you are and when there might be programs to teach you this. Museums might also help, universities as well.
