Recently...i couldn't turn on my car, a 1995, 1.8 liter Eagle Summit...made by Chrysler...it would try to turn on, but nothing would happen..then when it did and I put it on Drive, it would turn off. Took it to a mechanic who said it was the distributor and put in a new one and when I took it out...it was okay for a while and when I was at a red light...it would idle down, but not die....turned off the car and when I came back and started it, put it on DRIVE and it turned off...it's back with the mechanic but can anyone help me...thanks.

Could be a number of things, start, alternator, fuel pump, take to another mechanic.

If you put it in gear and keep your foot on the brake but at the same time give it gas, will it still stall? if NOT this could be a vacuum leak. Especially if you can get it going down the road and everything seams okay til you stop. I am basing this on the assumption that the car has been maintained as far as all the filters being changed. if it only does it in the rain that could be an ignition problem. These problems are difficult to daignose over the internet. I hope it helps.

Hi, Just like your first answer was, go and get a good tune up. Plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Maybe check to see if the ignition coils output is good and strong too. Another step is to check its timing, and adjust if necessary. Then do a fuel filter change. And if all else fails try to adjust idle up a bit, if possible. Good luck.

It could be several things. It could be the driving shaft on the inside of the car that is messed up. It could also be your fuel cutoff switch that is out of wack. It might also be a low battery not distibuting properly. When was the last time you changed the battery?
